Five Years of Frank Ocean’s channel ORANGE
It feels like just yesterday that Vlado Meller was mastering the debut studio album by an up-and-coming R&B singer and songwriter who emerged from the Odd Future hip-hop collective. Now, five years later, Frank Ocean is one of music’s biggest and most visionary stars, bridging the gap between pop, R&B, hip-hop and avant-garde electronica.
That album, channel ORANGE, was released this week in 2012 and ended up being both an influential game-changer in the pop music landscape and a smash success. Metacritic’s review aggregator named it the best-reviewed major album of 2012, and at the 2013 Grammy Awards – at which Frank performed a dazzling rendition of “Forrest Gump” – channel ORANGE won Best Urban Contemporary Album and Frank was also nominated for Best New Artist, Album of the Year and Record of the Year.
channel ORANGE was not the last time that Frank enlisted Vlado for his mastering services – Vlado recently worked on a string of surprise singles from the superstar, including “Chanel,” “Biking,” and “Lens” (assisted by fellow Vlado Meller Mastering engineer Jeremy Lubsey).
Congratulations to Frank on five years of tremendous success and for creating an album that has already made a monumental mark on modern music!
